The Kalevala is undoubtedly the most important book in Finnish literature. It was published in 1835 by Elias Lönnrot (1802-1884). During his travels through Finnish and Russian Karelia he met many singers who still knew old songs. Lönnrot wrote them down and created the Kalevala in which Finns can recognize themselves and their history.
On 28th of February Mr Adriaan van der Hoeven will give a lecture about the Kalevala and Finnish identity in Zalencentrum De Brink, Brinkstraat 39 in Bennekom. Click here for more information and registration.
